Content
Empirical economic research often aims to find out how different institutions and their reforms affect the behavior of people or businesses. Typically, the research question is to differentiate the effect of reforms from other changes that have taken place at the same time. The includes methods of microeconomics, which are most often utilized when conducting applied empirical research. The course includes lectures and practical exercises using statistical software and empirical micro data. The goal is to familiarize the course participants with using the tools they require for their own empirical projects. The course covers first how to work with real world microeconomic data. Second, it covers the most used identification designs, for example instrumental variables, difference-in-difference and regression discontinuity designs.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, you are able to evaluate the results of empirical economic research that utilizes micro data. You can also process empirical data and apply the tools of econometrics in analyzing micro data on the individual level.
