This advanced course introduces students to topics in the intersection of labor economics and corporate finance, focusing on how corporate decisions and structures affect human capital, firm organization, and worker careers. Key topics include the labor implications of:

  • Mergers and acquisitions.
  • Capital structure choices and bankruptcy.
  • Corporate ownership forms, such as family firms, listed firms, private equity, foreign, and state ownership.
  • Firm investments in new technologies.
  • Financial market booms and busts.

We will also discuss the influence of financial and labor market regulations on companies and their employees.

The course is suitable for PhD or master’s students in economics with an interest in exploring firm and worker dynamics from a labor economics standpoint, as well as for PhD or master’s students in finance seeking to understand labor-related issues.
