Content
The course focuses on the challenges of the energy transition, especially in electricity markets. We start with the ideal model of how a market balances supply and demand, discuss environmental externalities and other market failures, and cover investment and innovation. The course also looks at coordination issues that require solutions outside the markets, such as hydrogen and other connected energy networks.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will have familiarized themselves with the foundational concepts of electricity market design, empirical and computational methods for analyzing markets, and the market equilibrium effects of policy interventions.
