Content
This is an advanced course in modern environmental economics. It covers environmental externalities and the design of policy instruments in industrial, economy-wide, and international settings. The first part focuses on instrument choice, with special attention to challenges arising from asymmetric information. The second part considers policy in a general-equilibrium framework relevant for climate change and international interactions. Lectures emphasize theory with empirical motivation, and the readings span both theory and empirics.
Learning outcomes
The students learn to formulate, analyze and interpret economic models in environmental economics analytically and learn the conceptual basis for instrument design. Students become familiar with the main policy questions and acquire analytical and reporting skills to analyze real world challenges related to the economic use of the environment.
