  • Last spring, Helsinki GSE conducted a climate survey, which was carried out in collaboration with Inklusiiv. Inklusiiv was responsible for both the practical arrangements of the survey and the analysis of its results. The survey was sent to undergraduate and doctoral students, academic and teaching staff at the three member universities, the central office of Helsinki GSE, and the staff of VATT. A total of 87 people responded to the survey, and responses were obtained from all the aforementioned groups.

According to the results, 78% of respondents are moderately or extremely satisfied with their job or studies. Even though most people are satisfied, there are areas for improvement. The main areas for development are related to experiences of community and inclusiveness. Women experience less of a sense of community than men, and similarly, younger people less than older people. Additionally, the processes for reporting harassment and inappropriate behaviour are perceived as unclear.

The Helsinki GSE Equality Committee is committed to addressing the issues identified in the survey. The committee has, among other things, explored the possibilities of organizing GSE events and occasions more broadly on both campuses (Economicum and Otaniemi), as well as ensuring that movement between campuses for members of the universities is as smooth as possible. In addition, the committee is going to pilot low-threshold after-work events and a women's network in economics.

To ensure that the actions address different issues as effectively as possible, we would appreciate feedback and ideas for actions. What would make GSE more community-driven and inclusive? Suggestions for actions can be submitted through Webropol . Every response is valuable, and all kinds of ideas are warmly welcome!
