How to find study material?

Helsinki GSE member universities differs with their practical details related to studying. Information on how to find course study materials, schedules and other resources is listed below. If you don’t find the information you are looking for, please contact Helsinki GSE’s coordinator Jenni Rytkönen, firstname.lastname(without dots)@aalto.fi.

Aalto user ID
  • The day after your study right has been registered you have been automatically generated a digital identity at Aalto University and you will receive a message from the learning services informing you on how to activate your user ID.
  • More infromation on how to activate your Aalto user ID can be found here
  • The Aalto user ID also gives you access to the other Aalto IT systems and services, for more information, please visit here (please note that the instructions have been written for Aalto Open University -students, basic principles regarding the practical matters are still the same)
Online learning environment MyCourses

Aalto University uses MyCourses learning platform

  • Course material, zoom-links and other content is shared in the course MyCourses workspace.
  • You get access to the course MyCourses workspace by registering for the course in Sisu.
  • It can take over night from your course registration until you will be able to access your restricted MyCourses workspace.
  • To be able to use all the features of the course workspace and participate in the activities (discussions, assignments) you must log in as Aalto user with your Aalto IT account (that is generated after the study rights have been granted).
  • Workspaces for some courses are open acces, but please note the above mentioned.
  • See “My own courses” or search the course by its name and/or Aalto code.

Course schedules and detailed information
  • Course schedules (time and places) and detailed information on the course can be found in Aalto's Sisu (you can continue without logging in and search for courses by name or code)
  • Registration for courses (via study plan) takes also place in Sisu
  • Sisu instructions can be found here
Hanken user ID
  • The day after your study right has been registered you have been automatically generated a digital identity at Hanken and you will receive a message from the Hanken student services informing you on how to activate your IT account.
  • More information on how to activate your Hanken user ID can be found here
  • The Hanken user ID also gives you access to the other Hanken IT systems and services, for more information, please visit here
Online learning environment Moodle
  • Course material, zoom-links and other content is shared in the Moodle course workspace
  • Courses are listed on the Moodle front page: Course categories -> Economics
  • Access to many Moodle courses requires a 'key' (course password) which you can get from the teacher of the course.
    • Most teachers post the course key as a message in Sisu or send it by email couple of days before the course begins.
  • To be able to use all the features of the Moodle course workspace you must log in with your Hanken user ID (that is generated after the study rights have been granted)

University of Helsinki user ID
  • The day after your study right has been registered you have been automatically generated a digital identity at the University of Helsinki and you will receive a message from the UH student services informing you on how to activate your IT account
  • More infromation on how to activate your UH user ID can be found here
  • The UH user ID also gives you access to the other UH IT systems and services, for more information, please visit here
  • Note: if you are not an UH student you can't extend the validity period of your IT access in the UH intranet Flamma as said in the message sent by the UH Center for IT/Helpdesk but using the activation tool for new user accounts
Online learning environment Moodle

University of Helsinki uses Moodle learning platform

  • Course material, zoom-links and other content is shared in the Moodle course area
  • To be able to use all the features of the Moodle course area you must log in with your UH user ID
  • Tips for enrolling in a Moodle course area:
    • For some courses, it is enough to register in Sisu and you can access directly the Moodle area, please note, however, that it may take up to two hours after registration to enter the Moodle area.
    • You can enroll on a Moodle course yourself by using self enrolment, if the course teacher has enabled it (> insert the enrolment key if Moodle asks for one)
      • a Moodle course area address and an enrolment key (password) may be found on the Course page if you have logged in the Course page and if you have registered for the course in the UH Sisu: After registering for the course in Sisu, go to Courses page > Search the course by its name or UH code > log into the Course page with your UH user ID (the up right corner)
      • You can try to search the course by its name in the Moodle, too
      • Some teachers send the Moodle course area address and the enrolment key by email couple of days before the course begins.
    • If you cannot find the Moodle course, the enrolment may not yet be open.

  • Course schedules (time and places) and detailed information on the course can be found
    • in the UH Sisu (you can continue without logging in and search for courses by name or code) OR
    • on the Courses page > search for the course by name or UH code
      • you can view the information on this page without logging in or registering for the course, but some of the content added by the instructor on the Course page may be available only to course participants (for example Moodle course enrollment keys).
  • Registration for courses (via study plan) takes place in the UH Sisu
