Economics as a Minor

Learning some economics can make that small decisive difference even if you’ve decided to major in something else. Economic concepts have proven useful in analyzing workplace relations, legal disputes, bargaining situations, and many more: economics is a surprisingly versatile tool that can be applied to almost any situation.

On top of such directly useful knowledge, economics provides you with the ability to understand how the economy works. Such a skill is an imperative for anyone in working life, not just those specializing in economics. It is therefore not surprising that economics is a popular minor for students majoring in, e.g., social sciences, business, and engineering.

Helsinki GSE serves the wider academic community by tailoring minor programs for students in other disciplines. Helsinki GSE offers training in economic theory at the intermediate level, through introductory courses in quantitative and empirical methods of economics, and via an opportunity for advanced work in a student’s particular area of interest.

Throughout these courses, the emphasis will be on concepts, applications, and demonstrating the usefulness of economic methods.
