    The Yrjö Johansson Award in Economics 2019 was received by Oriana Bandiera and Imran Rasul, based on their joint research in the field of applied microeconomics, such as field experiments at the workplaces. Their joint research has strongly contributed the field of personnel economics. Thanks to Bandiera’s and Rasul’s research the impact of social relationships to the incentives is understood better than before.

    The joint research papers by Bandiera and Rasul have been published in the most recognized economic journals such as Economic Journal, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies and Econometrica. Bandiera earned her doctorate at Boston College 2000 and works currently as a professor at LSE. Rasul earned his doctorate at LSE and works currently as a professor at UCL.


    Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation chooses the Yrjö Jahnsson Award in Economics – laureate in cooperation with the European Economic Association EEA. The members of the awarding committee 2019 were professors Orazio Attanasio, Armin Falk, Eliana Ia Ferrara, Kjetil Storesletten and Hannu Vartiainen.

    The award is granted to a young economist, who has significantly contributed to European economics. The prize laureates are invited to Finland to lecture. The first award was given 1993 to Jean-Jaques Laffont and Jean Tirole. The prize is worth of 20 000€.
